I have been doing this for just over 2 yrs now. My daily visits consist of personal care, showering, pad change, change from night wear to day wear, apply cream on body, do the beds, breakfast, give or prompt client to take medication as per Mar Chart or blister pack. Use thicker in drinks where needed, make lunch, tea, wash dishes, dry and put them away. Light house work. Put dirty washing in the machine. If client uses the commode or urine bottle, I can assist client to use them. Catheter care. Most importantly, prioritise my day so I can spend more time with the client chatting to them about their life, past history, about the family. What they like doing as a hobby etc. I always tell my client and family when I take care of a client, I always tell them that it's not about how I want thi gs done!! It's about my client and how they want things doing. About me, I love meeting people from all walks of life. Listen to their stories. I love animals and bird watching. Nature out there is so beautiful. I enyou socialising with my family. I have a large family and get together to Celebrate birthdays or any other occasion. I'm a bit of a television addict as I enjoy watching all the soaps, any animal programs. Love listening to radio 4 (The Archers) when I can. I have a fab sense of humour. The main duties, of course, are to help with personal care, household tasks and similar jobs related to the client's needs and wants. But very important part of the job is also to make a difference in clients' emotional lives - to bring more joy in their day, promote their autonomy, be a compassionate companion in their challenges. I have to say I am good at that too. I love being in nature, listening to music, and am interested and practising different holistic healing modalities. I'm able to support people in their interests even if it's not something I'm enthusiastic about. When I'm at work client's needs come first and foremost. For example, even though I'm vegetarian, I don't mind cooking meat for clients. I'm a driver and love taking people out for social occasions; am computer literate and able to do administrative tasks. Such qualities as patience, kindness, and calmness help me build good relationships with people.
